**New-Community Partners Contribute to Successful Memorial Day Service
Memorial Day 2025-Post 1 participated in the Soldiers and Pioneers Cemetery's 154th Annual Memorial Day Service. Post 1 posted
the colors and the Memorial Rifle Squad fired a 21 gun salute. The Colin Powell JROTC presented the colors and cadets read
General Logan's Order and the Gettysburg address. One of Post 1's own, 2nd Vice Commander Samia (Sammi) Hollinger, gave the
keynote address. Sgt. Hollinger spoke of how the American Legion helps our nation's veterans and provided examples from her
own experiences. Boy Scout Troop 1 set up chairs for guests and placed flags at the graves of fallen service members, and
the Seward Community Band played martial music and Taps.
The crowd was treated to excellent weather and was standing room only. In fact, cemetery staff used all available folding
chairs and were forced to add office chairs from the cemetery office as the crowd just kept coming. Post 1 sponsored a community
meal of sloppy joes and potato salad at the Eagles Club immediately after the service. In all, it was a wonderful day made
better by a great crowd and cooperation by community partners.
